  Attended Memorial Service, disgusted...

  out of loyalty to a friend that died i went to his memorial service today.

  get this, in 30 minutes of service his name was said 3 times.

  I refuse to go to Memorial Sevices. The last one I attended was an Elders wife who died of cancer. THEY HAD NO WAKE FOR HER. She was cremated and only the immediate family attended. I went to the Memorial Service out of respect for the family.

  I drove over an hour to get to the Kingdom Hall. They had a picture of her by the front entrance.( Why couldn't they put her picture on the stage?) The talk was not about where she was born,what she did for a living,what she enjoyed doing,when she had kids and how she suffered in her last days. The talk was about how she was a pioneer and that we should learn from her. The thing that disgusted me was how the Elder looked out into the audience and started talking about how he sees faces that no longer attend the meetings. He went on and on about how they should all come back to the meetings. Well,after that,I will no longer attend the sales meetings.

  Last week was the 2 day assembly.I didn't go to either one. Today,my Mom called and told me the the C.O. and D.O.came for a visit.I've been attending only once a week and no field service in about 4 years. They left the March Watchtower and Awake magazines by the door. They will both be at Sunday's meeting. Should I not attend the Sunday meeting or come in late and leave early? What would you do?

  Who quit going to the meetings, came back later and now regretting it?

  i regret ever coming back to the meetings.

  i was baptized when i was 13 years old due to pressure and being told that anyone not baptized would be destroyed when ''the end'' was coming in 1975. i later quit attending and felt a relief when the end didn't come.

  the lies,too many meetings,be pounded to preach more and all their rules and regulations finally convinced me that i didn't belong there.. around the early 80's,i started up again.

  We just had a 2 day assembly last weekend and I didn't attend either one. I can't sit there for 8 hours and listen to all the lies they spew from the podium.

  My mom called to see why I wasn't there.I told her I had to work all weekend. She told me how wonderful the program was and how we are living in the last days. Only 2 got baptized.

  Around the early 80's,I started up again.(Don't ask me why) Now I see even more lies,more pressure to do more,no real love inside the Congregations,and the worship of the ''FAITHFUL and DISCREET SLAVE'' even more bothersome. Since fading is the only thing that works for me(my family are all Witnesses) the whole thing is getting to be unbearable.Just going to the meeting once a week is even difficult.

  Did you rejoin and now regret it?

  2007 District Convention to hammer apostates?

  this years "follow the christ" dc looks like it is going to be focused on avoiding all those evil apostates and their falsehoods, judging by some of the dc talks listed on the back of the june 2007 awake!

  I know I won't be there. Who wants to be outside in July with 100 degrees frying your brain? All the elderly and important Witnesses are sitting in air conditioning while the rest are baking in the sun with heat strokes. And don't forget to pack your cooler and save seats for friends and family. And don't forget the concluding prayer which lasts about 20 minutes.

  If most men decided to wear a beard today, would the JW's follow?

  the jw's will say that in jesus time, it was ok to have a beard because it was their custom back then, and today jw's should not have a beard because it's not our custom to have one today.. since the world is ever changing, it will continue changing, and beards might come back and be popular once more.. it's only a cheap excuse on their part, because they will never accept beards, even if every man wore one today..

  do you see a difference in the brothers' and sisters' demeanor (facial and otherwise) and attitude from years ago?

  I attend only once a week . My brain hurts if I go any more.

  My congregation has about 30 less members,6 teens disfellowshipped,4 divorces, no new members,less pioneers,no one reaching for any position,and members missing meetings for no reason. Members take more vacations,building big homes,driving nicer cars, and are more concerned about material things. Some don't attend the summer assemblies.Some don't answer at meetings or their answers are word for word from the reading material.Some leave as soon as meetings end. There is no more urgency about the preaching any longer as the hours are down. After the meetings end,there is hardly any talk about spiritual matters.

  can you guys give me some examples of some of the flickers of light?

  a jw threw the "the light gets brighter" thing at me and i want to ask what it means when they flip flop between yes and no on issues.
